Local motorcycle club stands up for suicide prevention

RIGBY — A local motorcycle club lost a 23-year-old member to suicide two years ago, and now they want to help prevent the tragedy from happening to others.

The suicide of Zach Davis, a member of the Rigby-based Syko Realm Motorcycle Club, was a surprise to friends and family because there was no sign of depression or mental illness.

“He was very loved in the community and by anyone who had met him,” said T.J. Davis, Zach’s father, and fellow club member. “The impact personally — there are no words for it other than ‘devastating.’ But thankfully, a tight-knit club helps pull each other through the tough times. … We will never have answers to many questions, and now we are just left with the heartache and pain to go through daily.”

To help prevent future tragedy, the club is hosting a suicide awareness and prevention fundraiser on March 2. The event will be held at Dolly’s Subway Bar in Rigby. A raffle and auction will be held alongside a Dutch oven dinner starting at 6 p.m. Participants will hear from a member of the Suicide Prevention Action Network of Idaho and ask questions.

“This is a great cause for our community, especially those that are struggling with thoughts of suicide,” says Tommy Barney, a spokesman for the club.

Sweatshirts and T-shirts supporting the cause are being sold before the event and can be purchased through Barney at tommybarney15@gmail.com.

The cost is $8 per plate. For more information on the fundraiser, call (208) 206-1232
