SHELLEY — Another local school district and a charter school have announced closures due to widespread illness.

Shelley School District 60 will be closed Monday and Tuesday due to a large number of staff and students who are sick with influenza or other respiratory ailments.

Superintendent Bryan Jolley said about 19 percent of the district’s student population was absent Friday. The school also hired 27 substitutes to cover for sick teachers.

“We hope if we give them four days people can get healed up,” Jolley said.

Jolley said the schools will be closed for everything starting Saturday until Tuesday, and that the public will have no access to the inside of buildings. School is expected to resume on Wednesday.

Taylor’s Crossing Public Charter School in Idaho Falls will also be closed Monday and Tuesday due to illness.

These closures are the latest in a string of school closures across eastern Idaho. Multiple schools in Bonneville, Madison, Fremont and Teton counties closed their doors for parts of this week due to widespread illness.
