REXBURG — Police are investigating after a woman reportedly yelled at people in a restaurant for violating social distancing recommendations while saying she might have coronavirus.

Officers received a 911 call just before 6 p.m. Saturday that a woman inside the Rexburg Little Caesars had become agitated that too many people were inside the restaurant. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends people maintain six feet of distance between themselves.

The 58-year-old woman from Teton decided to take matters into her own hands and began telling people to leave, according to Rexburg Police Assistant Chief Gary Hagen. She reportedly yelled in people’s faces, said she wasn’t feeling well and might have COVID-19.

When officers spoke with the woman, she said she did not have the coronavirus but “made it up” so people would leave the store.

Hagen said officers are following up and the woman could potentially face charges.
