Woman walking across the country to help fight human trafficking sets foot in Idaho

STAR (KIVI) – Angela Maxwell has logged more than 20,000 miles of walking all over the world. This year, she started a cross-country journey across the United States.

She is walking to raise money to help children in the fight against human trafficking. She hopes to help the organization, Her Future Coalition, build a shelter.

“They focus on young girls; they take them off the streets and to a safe place,” said Maxwell. “Then they start building shelter, education and even help with employment.”

We caught up with Angela as she walks through Idaho, but her journey takes courage as she travels solo and often seeks refuge by herself in a tent she carries on a cart.

“As you can imagine being a woman walking alone, I’m sleeping in the middle of nowhere, sometimes tucked behind bushes,” said Maxwell.

But she also enjoys moving at a snail’s pace in this fast-paced world, and she gets an opportunity to see the world and the United States in a different, unique way.

“I am not into humidity,” said laughed. “When you go really slow, it allows you the ability to connect with nature, the surroundings as well as the people.

So far, Angela has raised more than $12,000. Her goal is $20,000, and although she enters her last leg of this cross-country trek, she tells us she will continue walking until she raises enough money for the shelter.

“My heart will always be with Her Future Coalition, I will keep fundraising as long as it takes to get to that,” said Maxwell.
