POCATELLO – A new tenant is moving into the old Golden Corral at 850 Yellowstone Avenue in Pocatello.

Mark Baker, Assistant Administrator for Bingham Healthcare, tells EastIdahoNews.com construction on Bingham Healthcare Specialty Clinic and Urgent Care got underway about two weeks ago. It is slated for completion in October with a grand opening planned for Nov. 1.

“We’re really excited to take a building that otherwise would sit vacant and turn it into a new and beautiful use. We’re sad to see one business change, but we’re excited to be able to provide these new and enhanced services right in the center of Pocatello,” Baker says.

Golden Corral closed its doors in September after 19 years of business due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Bingham Healthcare began looking at the property about six months ago and purchased it in February.

Baker says its location in a high-traffic area made it appealing, along with its proximity to a residential area.

“The services we’ll be providing there is something that is important for residents to have quick access to,” says Baker.

A walk-in primary care clinic will be the base service at the new urgent care. It will also provide general surgeries, pain management and cardiology, among others.

The business model at Bingham Healthcare Specialty Clinic and Urgent Care is similar to the Mayo Clinic model, according to a news release, and is in line with the concept Bingham Healthcare has established at its Blackfoot campus and the Bingham Healthcare Comprehensive Cares Clinic in Idaho Falls.

Baker attributes the unique model to the company’s growth surge over the last several years.

“We deliver the healthcare experience in a unique way,” Baker says. “It’s a healthcare experience that patients are seeking out. They seek out our physicians and we’ll continue to meet the need and demand from the markets and the communities that we serve.”

Bingham Healthcare began providing medical services in eastern Idaho more than 70 years ago. Bingham Memorial Hospital opened in Blackfoot in 1950 with just six doctors and has grown to “have over 140 medical providers and employ over 700 people,” according to its website. It expanded to the Pocatello area about 20 years ago. The Comprehensive Cares Clinic opened in Idaho Falls in Dec. 2018.

The Specialty Clinic and Urgent Care is Bingham Healthcare’s eighth clinic in eastern Idaho.

The company’s renowned orthopedic institute, Empower Weight Loss Clinic and autoimmune disease & functional medicine clinic attracts patients from across the globe and board members say the new clinic will allow them to better serve patients.

“We have seen extremely positive results for being the first in the region to implement this type of patient-centered model,” Bingham Healthcare CEO Jake Erickson says in a news release. “We are pleased that we can continue to expand this model of medical care in Pocatello.”

The hours of operation have not yet been finalized, but Baker anticipates it being similar to other locations, which is 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday with a 6 p.m. closing time Saturday and Sunday.
