Former mayor reaches plea agreement; gets probation, community service
Published at | Updated atATOMIC CITY — A former Atomic City mayor originally charged with felony firing a weapon at an occupied vehicle has pleaded guilty to a lesser charge.
As part of a plea agreement, Christian John Polatis, 62, agreed to plead guilty to misdemeanor attempting to commit a violent injury. He was sentenced to 15 hours of community service and was placed on one year of supervised probation.

Polatis was arrested on Feb. 7 by deputies from the Bingham County Sheriff’s Office following 911 phone calls accusing him of firing a rifle at a man on an ATV. Court documents show Polatis and the victim were arguing about the victim’s dog when Polatis fired his weapon.
Along with probation and community service, Polatis was ordered to pay $466.50 in fines.
