ISP preparing to reopen I-15 between Roberts and Idaho Falls after Friday night windstorm

IDAHO FALLS – The Idaho Transportation Department is busy sweeping dirt and debris off Interstate 15 Saturday morning as they prepare to reopen the road between Idaho Falls and Roberts.
State officials closed down that section of the highway at 3:30 p.m. Friday due to high winds and blowing dust. Wind gusts were as high as 50 miles per hour in some parts of eastern Idaho. A wind advisory was in effect until 9 p.m.

“The Island Park area received a dusting of snow last night. Never a dull moment with the spring weather in Southeast Idaho,” Idaho State Police tweeted Saturday morning.
ITD crews are busy sweeping the sand and dirt off Interstate 15 to reopen the roadway. Areas saw wind gusts yesterday reaching 50mph.

As of 4:49 a.m., ITD’s website indicates that stretch of I-15 remained closed. An ITD spokeswoman could not be reached for comment about when the road will reopen.
