IDAHO FALLS — A judge sent a man to prison for waking a sleeping couple and stabbing them in an Idaho Falls home.

Anthony Jessie Archuleta, 26, received a three to 13-year prison sentence by District Judge Dane Watkins last Tuesday. Archuleta pleaded guilty in February to a single count of felony aggravated battery.

As part of a plea agreement made with Bonneville County Prosecutors, an additional felony count of aggravated battery was dismissed, according to court records.

The incident happened in the middle of the night in August after a couple on the 1100 block of Kortnee Drive was stabbed. The Idaho Falls Police Department was called and officers found the injured man and woman.

Police reports show that Archuleta, the ex-boyfriend of the woman, entered the home of the sleeping couple. Both victims reported Archuleta woke them up and attacked the man with a knife. When the woman tried stepping in, she was stabbed.

The man ran from the house to ask the neighbors to call 911. When police arrived, Archuleta was reported to have been inside the home with another adult and three kids.

Police surrounded the home and got the others outside and found an open window. Investigators initially believed Archuleta left the house and ran, prompting the department to send an emergency notification to neighbors.

As more police arrived, Archuleta was found inside the house and walked outside in handcuffs. Police report he refused to identify himself or speak with detectives.

Police found blood on Archuleta’s hands, arms and clothes. They also found the knife used in the alleged attack.

The man and woman recovered from their injuries after being taken to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.

At the sentencing, Archuleta received 264 days of credit for the time he’s already spent behind bars. Additionally, Watkins ordered Archuleta to pay $1,645.50 in fees and fines.
