POCATELLO — A Pocatello woman accused of driving under the influence after causing a crash that injured a mother and daughter has reached a plea deal.

Madisen Jean Kalivas, 25, will serve seven years of probation, according to the deal reached on Aug. 11. She must also spend 20 days in prison, to be served on the weekends within seven months of sentencing.

Kalivas was arrested on Jan. 26 after crashing her 2002 Chevy Tahoe into a 2016 Nissan Versa. The driver and passenger of the Versa, a 30-year-old mother and her 8-year-old daughter, were each treated for non-life-threatening injuries after the mother was removed from the vehicle by Pocatello fire crews.

This was Kalivas’ third DUI in five years.

Kalivas also pleaded guilty to infractions for operating a vehicle while using a mobile phone and failing to yield. For those charges, she was assessed fees of $221.50. Misdemeanor charges for possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia were dismissed.

She is due in court to change her plea on Aug. 16. When she is sentenced, District Court Judge Rick Carnaroli will also assess a restitution amount, which is part of the plea deal, to be paid to the victims.
