Communities celebrating service members for Veterans Day 2023

IDAHO FALLS — Communities across eastern Idaho are thanking those who have served or are currently serving our country with banquets, salutes and other ceremonies.

POCATELLO

On Friday, Nov. 10, Idaho Farm Bureau Insurance will be hosting the 11th Annual Farm Bureau Salute to Idaho Veterans. The Salute includes a flag ceremony, Posting of the Colors, the Idaho Falls Brass Quintet, guest speaker, luncheon, slideshow, gift presentation and complimentary photos.

The event is free to all veterans, current active-duty personnel and their families. It will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Farm Bureau, 275 Tierra Vista Drive in Pocatello. For more information: (208) 239-4276 or mmyers@idfbins.com.

IDAHO FALLS

  • Parkwood Meadows Assisted Living Community is having a Veteran’s day program Friday, beginning at 2 p.m, at 1885 Parkwood Street, Idaho Falls. The VFW and the American Legion will on hand to help with the celebration.

    Residents are singing the “Star Spangled Banner” and the audience will listen to Lee Greenwood’s “God Bless The USA.” After the program and speakers, refreshments will be served.

  • Thunder Ridge High School is hosting its annual Veterans Day Celebration on Friday. Two A-10 Warthogs, part of the 124th Fighter Wing, Idaho Air National Guard, will conduct a military flyover as part of the ceremony.

    The event will be at 10 a.m. at Thunder Ridge High School, 4941 East First Street, in Idaho Falls.

  • The 10th Annual Veterans Day Celebration at Eagle Rock Middle School will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at 2020 Pancheri Drive. All 7th grade students will participate in a learning simulation called “Walking in the Footsteps of a Soldier” beginning at 2 p.m. Thursday. All 8th-graders will take part in three breakout Q&A sessions with local veternas beginning at 2 p.m. Friday. In addition, 50 American flags will be on display in front of the school all week.

REXBURG

  • A Veterans Day memorial ceremony will be held on Friday, Nov. 10 in the Madison High School gymnasium at 10 a.m. The event will be hosted by the Rexburg Area Chamber of Commerce. Wreaths can be purchased from the chamber, and will be displayed at the Veterans Memorial in Smith Park.

  • In honor of Veterans Day, the Museum of Rexburg has a returning special exhibit, “Rexburg’s Military Heroes.” The exhibit is a display of photos of veterans that have lived for any amount of time in Madison County.

    The exhibit will run Nov. 9 through Nov. 18 on Monday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission is free for the Veteran’s Day Display.

RIGBY

  • The Jefferson County Republican Women will be honoring Veterans at the school district offices, 3850 East 300 North in Rigby, on Thursday at 7 p.m.

    Jacque Hawkins Munns, Wife of Col. Roger Munns will be speaking on “A spouse’s perspective.” There will also be a small gift for the veterans as well as musical number, flag ceremony and refreshments.

  • The Rigby Chamber of Commerce is presenting its annual Veterans Day Banquet on Saturday at 6 p.m. The event will be held at the Rigby Middle School, in the commons area.

    There events includes dinner, music, memorabilia on display and raffle prizes, all meant to celebrate veterans and help raise awareness of veterans in the community. For more information contact Frank Stees at (208) 520-5235 or Roy Gibson at (208) 589-7182.

ASHTON

The Annual Veterans Day Dinner, sponsored by the American Legion and the American Legion Auxiliary Post #89, will be at the Ashton Community Center on Saturday from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. All veterans and their families are invited.

FIRTH

Firth High School will be presenting their tribute to the Veterans on Wednesday, Nov. 8. Each and every possible Veteran has been invited, and will be recognized for their contributions, whether they be in war zones or in peacetime deployment somewhere in the world.

Speakers will include Major Annie Gardner and Blake Sonny Alvarez. The ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. sharp. There is sure to be a full house so plan ahead. The event is free to attend.
