Every week I’m interviewing exciting people from Idaho and around the world!

The Melaleuca Freedom Celebration is the biggest fireworks show west of the Mississippi River and it’s the perfect way to celebrate the 4th of July!

Tom Bates is the president for Western Display Fireworks, the company that has coordinated and set up the show since it started 31 years ago. I was able to meet up with Tom at Snake River Landing to talk about fireworks and here’s what I asked him:

  • How long have you been setting up fireworks displays?
  • How did you get started working with pyrotechnics?
  • How many fireworks are set up in this display?
  • What’s your favorite kind of firework?
  • How long does it take you to set up the Melaleuca fireworks show?
  • What is dangerous about your job?
  • What makes you proud to be an American?

Don’t miss the Melaleuca Freedom Celebration fireworks tonight at Snake River Landing. The amazing show begins at 10 p.m.
