BLACKFOOT — A Blackfoot man has been sentenced for his involvement in a high-speed chase in December 2023 after he and a woman sped from police and he pointed a gun at law enforcement.
Antonio Ray Sesma-Lopez, 24, was initially charged with two felony counts of assault on a law enforcement officer; felony aggravated assault with a deadly weapon; felony destruction, alteration or concealment of evidence; felony possession of a controlled substance; misdemeanor use or possession with intent to use drug paraphernalia; misdemeanor resisting or obstructing officers; and a felony enhancement for the use of a deadly weapon in the commission of a felony.
He accepted a plea agreement on June 27 where, in exchange for a guilty plea on the aggravated battery and possession charges, the rest would be dismissed.

The 24-year-old was sentenced by 7th Judicial District Judge Darren B. Simpson on Monday to two and a half years fixed and four and a half years indeterminate.
Jessyka Goodrider, 22, of Blackfoot, was also arrested in this incident. She was charged with felony eluding a police officer, felony possession of a controlled substance, felony destruction of evidence and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.
She had also accepted a plea agreement to plead guilty to the eluding and possession of a controlled substance charge. This dismissed the possession of drug paraphernalia and destruction of evidence charges.
However, according to the minutes of her sentencing on April 24, Goodrider failed to appear, and a warrant was issued for her arrest.
Background
On Dec. 29, 2023, at around 11 p.m., an officer with the Blackfoot Police Department initiated a traffic stop on a black 2008 Chevrolet Impala on West Bridge Street.
As the officer approached the car, it sped away, making its way onto State Highway 39.
Multiple Bingham County Sheriff’s deputies responded with the officer and chased the car, reaching speeds up to 100 mph.
The officer said he saw a passenger stick an arm out and aim a black handgun at his patrol car.
The court document states the officer had a passenger who ducked down to avoid being aimed at by the pistol. This caused the officer to slow down and pull away from the chase, letting the deputies take the lead.
Deputies said the car’s passengers were throwing items out of the car near 1100 West 300 South.
The document states that deputies deployed spike strips and a PIT maneuver when the officer caught back up to end the chase.
After the occupants were arrested, Goodrider was given multiple doses of Narcan, as she admitted to swallowing methamphetamine before the chase had ended.
The woman told officers that Sesma-Lopez was the driver and had the gun. The document doesn’t state whether a gun was found at the scene.
Returning to the area where the occupants threw items out of the car, the officer found several cans of alcoholic drinks.
A search of Sesma-Lopez’s person resulted in deputies finding a meth pipe and a large amount of cash.
A search of the car produced a broken glass pipe, a purse, various items of drug paraphernalia, a plastic makeup bag containing a large amount of a white substance and several containers of alcohol.
