A local Secret Santa is giving $1 million to deserving people in eastern Idaho this holiday season. Every day, from now until the end of the year, the East Idaho News elves will be delivering gifts from Secret Santa and we’ll be sharing the surprise videos here.

Peggy is 68 and has spent nearly 15 years caring for patients at State Hospital South. She is known for her compassion, steady support, and habit of lifting spirits with a listening ear or a cold soda.

Colleagues say she often brings in food for staff and is the first to reach out when someone is struggling.

Since starting as a charge nurse in 2010, Peggy has regularly worked two jobs — including years at the Crisis Center — to make ends meet. She had hoped to retire last year, but mounting health concerns and costly dental work have forced her to delay those plans. To save money, she picks up as much overtime as possible, sometimes working both day and night shifts within a single 24-hour period.

A Secret Santa heard about Peggy, her work ethic and her positive impact on everyone around her. He asked the East Idaho News elves to surprise her with an early Christmas gift.
