National touring pianist Ben Cosgrove to perform in Ashton

ASHTON — Warm River Studio is bringing nationally touring composer and pianist Ben Cosgrove to Ashton for two performances on July 10 & 11, giving east Idaho audiences a chance to hear an artist whose music is inspired by the landscapes and places he has traveled.
Studio owner Ellen Lynch said Cosgrove’s style is a perfect fit for the intimate venue.
“We’re always looking for artists who create a unique experience for our audiences, and Ben’s music really does that,” Lynch said. “His compositions are inspired by the natural world, and we thought that would really resonate with people who love living in this part of Idaho.”

Cosgrove, a composer, pianist and multi-instrumentalist based in northern New England, has built a national following performing original instrumental music that blends elements of folk and classical music. Much of his work explores the relationship between people and the landscapes they inhabit.
“I don’t think of my pieces as rendering places in music,” Cosgrove told Harvard Magazine. “They’re more a way of responding to places musically. Writing music just turns out to be a great way for me to process the world.”
His latest album, Topograph, was released in January and continues that theme. During his career, Cosgrove has performed in 49 states and completed artist residencies with organizations including NASA, Glacier National Park, Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park and the Schmidt Ocean Institute.
Cosgrove will perform at Warm River Studio, 612 Main St. in Ashton, at 7 p.m. Friday, July 10, and again at 4 p.m. Saturday, July 11. Doors open 30 minutes before each performance, and complimentary refreshments will be served.
