New on-campus Centre Square apartments dedicated

REXBURG — New on-campus apartments, Centre Square, were recently constructed for male and female students at BYU-Idaho. Elder James J. Hamula, a member of the First Quorum of the Seventy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, gave the complex’s dedication Tuesday, Sept. 22.

Wayne Clark, director of University Operations, said he believes the new housing complex replaces on-campus housing that has reached the end of its useful life.

“As its name implies, Centre Square is a place of gathering and fellowship,” said Troy Dougherty, director of Housing and Student Living at BYU-I. “This new housing complex will truly be a community for men and women centered on living the principles of the gospel.”

Construction on Centre Square began in October 2013. This three-building complex offers living space for up to 850 students, with a small park centered in the middle of the apartments.

“I love it,” said BreAnna Ray, a freshman studying nutrition. “It’s a nice way to be able to walk and not have to use your car.”

Ben Bailey, a freshman studying auto engineering, said moving in the Centre Square was the best decision.

“It’s pretty great,” Bailey said. “Everything is really clean and new. I really like it.”
