Local McDonald’s giving 100 percent of sales Monday to family of woman killed in crash

REXBURG — The owner of a Rexburg McDonald’s is donating 100 percent of sales Monday to the family of a woman killed in a car accident.

Kathy Striffler, 53, was with her husband, Henry, and son, Glenn, on Interstate 90 near Columbus, Montana when police say Henry fell asleep at the wheel early Monday, March 21.

strifflerWhen he overcorrected, the vehicle reportedly rolled several times and Striffler was thrown from the car. She died on the scene.

Henry and Glenn survived the crash but are left with funeral and medical expenses.

Trent Cichos, the owner of McDonald’s on University Blvd., is friends with the Striffler’s and says when he heard about the crash, he decided to declare March 28 “Kathy Striffler Day.”McDonald's south rexburg

“Everybody liked Kathy and she liked everybody,” Cichos tells EastIdahoNews.com. “She kept her family together and we want to make sure they know they are loved.”

Cichos says everyone in Rexburg seemed to know Kathy. She was a school crossing guard at Kennedy Elementary School and had also worked in the lunch room at Adams Elementary.

“I’ve had probably 50 people tell me this week that she was their best friend,” Cichos says. “She was just that kind of person.”

Cities said folks are invited to come to McDonald’s Monday and celebrate Kathy’s life by sharing stories and memories.

“She touched so many lives and this is just one way we can say thank you,” Cichos said.

Kathy Striffler’s viewing will be held Monday, March 28 from 5:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at Flamm Funeral Home, 61 N. 1st E. in Rexburg.

Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 29 at the LDS Church 5th ward building, 590 Summerwood Dr. in Rexburg.
