SHELLEY – A man and a woman were hospitalized following a 3-vehicle crash on U.S. 91 at milepost 122 north of Shelley Friday evening.

Idaho State Police reports the crash occurred at 5:43 p.m.

Robert Dietz, 63 of Chico, California was traveling southbound on a 1990 Harley Davidson motorcycle. He was traveling behind Cody Gray, 29 of Shelley, who was driving a 2019 Toyota 4Runner. Carol Anderson, 73, of Shelley, was traveling northbound in a 2013 Jeep Wrangler.

“Dietz went to pass Gray and struck Anderson’s vehicle. Dietz then crossed into southbound traffic and struck Gray before coming to rest on the southbound shoulder,” a news release from ISP says.

Dietz was not wearing a helmet. It’s not clear if Anderson was wearing a seatbelt. They were both injured and taken by ambulance to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls.

A house supervisor at EIRMC tells EastIdahoNews.com Dietz is in critical condition, as of Saturday morning. Anderson was treated and released.

Gray was wearing his seatbelt and was not hurt.

The southbound lanes were blocked for about two and a half hours as crews worked to clean up the wreckage. Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office and Idaho Falls Ambulance assisted ISP in the response.
