RIGBY — A Rigby man was arrested and charged after police say he downloaded and shared images and videos of child pornography.

Antonio Lopez, 36, is charged with two counts of felony possessing or accessing child sexually exploitative material.

According to police reports, on Aug. 30, a Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputy was assigned to an Internet Crimes Against Children case involving three cyber tips.

The cyber tips contained an email, reportedly belonging to Lopez, that had allegedly been downloading and distributing images and videos of child pornography on the messaging app, “Kik.”

According to court documents, the content showed children between the ages of four and nine years old being raped and forced into sexual situations.

On Sept. 24, the deputy, with help from the ICAC unit, Idaho Falls Police Department, and the Madison County Sheriff’s office, conducted a search warrant on Lopez’s car and home.

Officers conducted a traffic stop on Lopez at a home in Jefferson County where he was detained. Two cell phones were seized from his person and the car.

Detectives transported Lopez to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, where he requested a lawyer and was escorted to jail for holding until the search warrant on his home was completed.

Officers reportedly found at least 105 images and videos of child pornography on Lopez’s phone and connected to his email account.

A warrant was issued for Lopez’s arrest on Jan. 24, and he was booked into the Jefferson County Jail on Monday with a $100,000 bond.

Lopez is expected to appear for a preliminary hearing on Feb. 6. If convicted, he could face up to 20 years in prison.

Though Lopez has been charged with these crimes, it does not necessarily mean he committed them. Everyone is presumed innocent until they are proven guilty.
