‘Pope Francis Effect’: Bishops Giving Up Luxury Cars
(ROME) — In Rome, they’re calling it the “Francis Effect,” as more than a dozen bishops gave up their luxury cars for cheaper models.
The move comes a few months after Pope Francis said that it pained him to see priests driving expensive cars and urged clergy to think of all the hungry children in the world if they were tempted by an upscale model.
The bishops are also swapping flashy gold crosses for silver or metal — like the pope’s cross, made of iron.
