Why Olive Oil and Red Wine May Help You Live Longer
Published at(NEW YORK) — Another benefit to the Mediterranean Diet: longer life.
Researchers at Harvard Medical School and Brigham and Women’s Hospital have found that consuming less dairy and meat and more olive oil and red wine — in moderation — takes less of a toll on DNA that’s a lifespan indicator.
Immaculata DeVivo, an associate professor at Harvard Medical School and the study’s senior author, says your telomeres — the ends of DNA at the ends of your chromosomes that are a marker of aging — benefit from eating antioxidant-rich fruits, vegetables, olive oil, and red wine.
Regular exercise also helps.
