Will Smith, Tom Hardy, Jared Leto Starring in DC Supervillain Movie
Published at(NEW YORK) — Will Smith, Tom Hardy and Jared Leto have officially been named to the star-studded cast of a DC Comics film due out in 2016.
The trio will appear in Suicide Squad, in which a number of DC’s signature supervillains will be brought together for a secret government operation. Smith will play Batman enemy Deadshot, and Hardy will fill the role of Suicide Squad leader Rick Flagg.
Leto will co-star as another Batman villain, The Joker, who was last portrayed on the big screen by the late Heath Ledger in 2008’s The Dark Knight. Ledger posthumously won an Oscar for his performance.
Incidentally, Hardy starred as another Batman bad guy, Bane, in 2012’s The Dark Knight Rises.
Also announced to the Suicide Squad cast: The Wolf of Wall Street actress Margot Robbie, who will play Joker accomplice and girlfriend Harley Quinn; Divergent‘s Jai Courtney, who will appear as Flash enemy Boomerang; and Pan actress Cara Delevingne, who will take on the role of Enchantress.
The film’s studio, Warner Bros., made no mention of Jessie Eisenberg, who is rumored to be reprising his Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice role of Lex Luthor.
Fury director David Ayer will helm Suicide Squad, which is scheduled to open August 5, 2016.
