Silver also stated that he is interested in changing the playoff format so that the best teams in the entire NBA are eligible to play in May and June.

“We’ll come as close as we can to eliminating the four-in-five formula. We think we can make a dramatic reduction,” Silver said. “We hear everyone loud and clearly. It’s a function of number of days in the schedule.”

Silver hinted at a reduction in preseason games, an extension of the NBA regular season, and he stated that the league is in contact with ESPN and TNT to allow more games on Thursdays and Sundays for national television purposes.
