Market Posts Gains As Unemployment Claims Drop

iStock/Thinkstock(NEW YORK) — A welcome unemployment report helped push markets higher on Thursday after consecutive days of losses.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed the session at 17,763.24, 65.06 above its open.
The Nasdaq edged up 6.71 to a close of 4,886.94, while the S&P 500 climbed 7.27 to 2,066.96.
The Labor Department said on Thursday that jobless claims dipped by 20,000 from last week. That drop was not affected by “special factors.”
Also on Thursday, Airbnb announced it was launching service in Cuba, the first major American business expansion on the island nation since President Obama announced a normalizing of relations.
