Never seen in Israel, the 2,000-year-old text is on display in the museum’s new exhibit called, “A Brief History of Humankind.”

Because of its fragility, the text will only be exhibited for two weeks before the museum puts it back in temperature-controlled storage.

The museum describes the exhibit as “an odyssey into the evolution of humankind, from prehistory to modern times.”

The Ten Commandents are considered one of civilization’s most important texts from the Old Testament. The text’s monotheism definition, “thou shalt worship no God before me,” played a role in shaping Christianity.
