EAST IDAHO ELECTS: Blackfoot mayoral forum (minus the mayor who refused to come)
EastIdahoNews.com is hosting several forums over the coming days featuring men and women who are running for local political office in Pocatello, Blackfoot, Idaho Falls, Ammon, Rigby and Rexburg.
Each candidate is given 90 seconds to make an opening statement. They are then given 90 seconds to respond to questions and they get a final 90 seconds for a closing statement.
The forums will be posted over the next two weeks on EastIdahoNews.com.
In Blackfoot, there are five people running for mayor.
Paul Loomis has been serving as the mayor of Blackfoot since January 2014. He refused to participate in the candidate forum because it was not held in Blackfoot.
“I understand your position but for it to truly be a Blackfoot public forum, it needs to be in Blackfoot with voters from Blackfoot present,” Loomis said in a statement to EastIdahoNews.com.
Marc Carroll retired after a long career working at the Idaho National Laboratory.
Jim Thomas has lived in Blackfoot nearly 50 years.
Chase VanOrden was born and raised in Blackfoot.
