OGDEN, Utah – “I’d call ourselves proud but sad. We have no regrets either,” Stephen Taylor says about his son who was killed in Afghanistan last week.

Stephen Taylor is the father of Brent Taylor and dad to seven other kids in the family.

“When I worked at Hillfield, and every year, of course the air show and the open house. We love taking the kids up there.”

Five sons enlisted in the military. The boys over the years just decided on their own one by one. This military family is now dealing with the ultimate loss.

“It’s not for everyone and it’s a tough thing especially when they are deployed and they have families at home. It’s hard for everybody,” Tamara Taylor, Brent’s mom says.

His brother can’t be identified because of his job says their mom helped instill their love for their country.

“She is responsible for a lot of that because she is very patriotic and how she raised us.”

Brent was on his fourth volunteer mission in Afghanistan, and his brother says he wouldn’t have it any other way.

“Those rights don’t exist without obligations and responsibilities and that was something that Brent spoke about and understood. More than most.”

“That’s hard for us at home but it’s — who else is gonna do it? You know? There’s got to be brave young men that will do that. So I am proud that they will,” says Tamara Taylor.

Steven Taylor says they have received thousands of messages from people across the nation and Afghanistan from those Brent affected.

“Just a great message and a legacy for him. So we’re very proud of him.”
