The following is a news release from Attorney General Lawrence Wasden.

BOISE — Attorney General Lawrence Wasden has announced a former southern Idaho sheriff was sentenced Friday, February 1, for one count of misusing public money.

Fifth District Judge Ned Williamson sentenced 61-year-old Douglas McFall, the former Jerome County Sheriff, after he pleaded guilty in November 2018.

Judge Williamson sentenced McFall to a unified sentence of three years, with one year fixed and two years indeterminate. The court then suspended the sentence and placed McFall on three years supervised probation and ordered 100 hours of community service. A jail sentence of 60 days was also suspended. In addition, Judge Williamson ordered the defendant to pay a $1,500 fine, $393 in restitution, and court costs.

An investigation revealed that, while still serving as sheriff, McFall used a county-owned Costco Reward Certificate to assist in the personal purchase of a gun safe.

The case was investigated by the Office of the Attorney General. Deputy Attorney General David Morse of the OAG’s Special Prosecutions Unit prosecuted the case.
