IDAHO FALLS — Authorities arrested a local man after a shooting in Idaho Falls Sunday evening.

Around 5:30 p.m., the Idaho Falls Police Department arrived at an apartment on the 1500 block of Alice Avenue after several neighbors called reporting gunshots, according to an IFPD news release. Witnesses told officers that an armed man, later identified as 26-year-old Robert Hornsby of Ammon, went up to an apartment complex and got into an argument with some of the residents.

Neighbors subsequently heard gunshots before seeing the man flee from the complex in a silver or grey sedan.

Officers located the car and found Hornsby behind the wheel. Police placed the man into custody after commanding him to get out of the car.

Investigators found two shell casings sitting on the roof of Hornsby’s car and spotted a handgun tucked between the front seats. Officers searching the car also found a rolled-up $20 bill that had a small amount of methamphetamine.

Police also report finding a bullet hole in the apartment on Alice.

Police arrested Hornsby, who had several warrants for unrelated crimes. Bonneville County prosecutors have also charged Hornsby with felony charges of unlawful discharge of a firearm at an occupied building, unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a controlled substance. Hornsby was also charged with misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia and giving false information to police.

Hornsby is expected to make his initial appearance Monday afternoon, where a judge will set his bail.
