New Pocatello Maverik to feature made-to-order food

POCATELLO – A new Maverik convenience store is opening on the south side of Pocatello next week.

Sheila Merrigan, Maverik’s executive regional director, tells EastIdahoNews.com the 5,600-square-foot building at 3400 South 5th Avenue will open Tuesday, March 30.

“It’s going to be a soft opening. We’ll just unlock the doors at 6 a.m. and welcome customers as they come in. We certainly wanted to have a grand opening to celebrate with the Pocatello fans, but with COVID still being an issue, we’ve not opened up grand openings again,” Merrigan says.

Merrigan says the new Maverik has a much larger presence than Pocatello’s three other stores and will have panoramic images and murals of “spectacular places right in Idaho.”

“That’s going to be really fun for the customers to see and recognize their local areas,” says Merrigan.

There will also be imagery and video content on the store’s TVs, gas pumps and fountain dispensers, along with high-flow gas pumps and CAT scales for trucks. General public fuel pumps will be available as well.

Made-to-order food, such as gourmet burritos, tacos, quesadillas and salads, are another new feature.

“In addition to the other food offerings that our other locations have, this one will have made-to-order food. That’s something that is new to the Pocatello area, and customers will love it. It’s a very high-quality, very good food option,” she says.

Construction on the new Maverik got underway in October, but Merrigan says the project has been several years in the making.

Maverik is opening on the site formerly occupied by Prime Time Auctions. Merrigan says this particular spot was appealing for the state’s 64th store because of its proximity to Interstate 15 and its ability to fill an “unmet fueling need” amid growth in the Pocatello area.

“It’s taken about eight months from the time we solidified that it’s going to happen, start building the team and breaking ground,” Merrigan says. “Maverik really put a lot of detail into finding the exact location that’s really going to work for growth in the area and serve as many as possible.”

Merrigan says there’s been a tremendous amount of excitement surrounding the new store since it was first announced in October. The store will open with 25 local employees, a larger staff than Maverik has had at one store in a while. Merrigan says a store director who moved out of state was recruited to come back and help open this one.

Merrigan is excited to open up and begin serving customers.

“We staffed our store with familiar faces that people will recognize and be happy to see,” says Merrigan. “On Tuesday morning, we’re going to have the full variety of breakfast items available. We’ll be up and going full speed ahead.”
