Vehicle hydroplanes, rolls on Highway 20 near Rigby before getting hit by another car

RIGBY – Traffic was delayed on U.S. Highway 20 for about an hour Monday night following a two-vehicle crash.

The crash occurred about 6:40 p.m. at the County Line Road Exit south of Rigby in the eastbound lane.

Idaho State Police reports 22-year-old Hannah Shepley of Ashburn, Virginia was traveling westbound on Highway 20 in a 2015 Subaru Forester. It was raining and she hydroplaned while crossing the overpass. She hit a guard rail on the other side of the road and rolled over into oncoming traffic in the eastbound lane.

After coming to a stop, Shepley’s vehicle was hit by a 2017 Subaru Impreza driven by Keith Venema, 40, of Idaho Falls.

All occupants were wearing seatbelts. ISP did not release the condition of the victims or whether they were hospitalized.

ISP diverted traffic through the exit as they worked to clean up the wreckage. The crash remains under investigation.

Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office assisted ISP in the response.
