Sinkhole appears at Idaho Falls business

IDAHO FALLS — A sinkhole in front of a local business is causing some frustrations for the owners.

Jaeger Jensen, the general manager at The Gun Shop at 2680 North Holmes Avenue in Idaho Falls, tells EastIdahoNews.com a customer noticed it around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

It’s near the entrance to the store, and is about 8 feet wide and 4 feet deep. Jensen has no idea what caused it but believes it happened over time.

“The initial hole was maybe a foot around, but when you looked inside, it was about 4 feet down,” Jensen says. “I think the asphalt just gave out as it got warm.”

He and his team have temporarily filled it in with dirt and gravel. The plan is to see how it holds up over the next month before getting new asphalt.

Jensen says parking has been a little “interesting” Thursday, but nothing too crazy.

He isn’t aware of any other businesses in town that have experienced this.

Despite the eyesore, Jensen says The Gun Shop is still open, and he’s hoping to have the issue resolved soon.

“We’re still open for business, and we’re just going to play it by ear. You just roll with the punches,” he says.

The Gun Shop is open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
