TURKEY TROUBLE — Police officers came to the rescue when a unique call for help came in regarding a wild turkey that made its way inside an Indiana supermarket.

The St. Joseph County Police Department shared footage of officers responding to the call on its Facebook page on April 11, 2025.

“I’m at Martin’s (Supermarket) … There’s a very large turkey that just went in the store,” a man is heard saying on the 911 call. “We need animal control out here. It’s chasing the customers. It’s a really big turkey. It’s knocking everything off the shelves.

Body cam footage shows officers inside the store and the turkey on one of the top shelves. One officer suggests they should try to “herd” the turkey in a specific direction but another says, “Why don’t you just grab him?”

“Well, grab him then,” another officer is heard saying.

An officer then slowly approaches the turkey and carefully grabs the bird with both hands as the turkey attempts to fly away.

Despite its best efforts to escape, the turkey’s rampage comes to an end as the officer holds tightly onto the turkey. Video then shows the officers taking the turkey back outside where it’s released.

“Anyone hear about a turkey causing chaos in Martin’s?” the video’s caption reads. “The good news, no harm, no fowl. The turkey was peacefully escorted off the premises and released completely unharmed.”

The department added, “Props to all responding officers — especially K9 Officer O’Konski, who’s now certified in poultry negotiations!”
