ST. ANTHONY — Cathy Powell Koon of St. Anthony has been named the Media Network Idaho Communicator of Achievement for 2025.
With the statewide honor, she is recognized for her commitment to her community, her profession, her family, National Federation of Press Women and Media Network Idaho.
Koon joined MNI (previously known as Idaho Press Women) and National Federation of Press Women in 1980, a move she says changed her life.
She worked for newspapers until 2000, when she went into public relations.
While working at the Idaho Falls Post Register, she was part of the team covering the 1988 fire in Yellowstone and was nominated for a Pulitzer.
Koon is NFPW publications director and AGENDA editor, president of MNI and a member of the newly appointed NFPW communications committee.
She helped plan three NFPW national conferences: 1998 in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho; 2008 in Idaho Falls and 2013 in Salt Lake City.
She serves on Fremont County’s Planning and Zoning Commission and previously served as Chamber of Commerce president and Economic Development Director. She is a team player and has devoted her adult life to her family, her community, her church, NFPW and MNI.
Koon will represent Idaho at the NFPW annual conference in Golden, Colorado in September where the NFPW national Communicator of Achievement will be announced.
