POCATELLO — With the school year about to begin, many families decided to go out to one last summer event this last weekend.

The Pocatello Potato Festival was held on Saturday evening right in front of the building occupied by the Museum of Clean and My World Discovery Museum. This was the first year that the two museums held the event, and an overcast sky provided attendees with cool weather as they walked around visiting a variety of food trucks, listened to live music and participated in free activities.

“I think it’s pretty cool,” said David Hunter, who was there with his wife and son. “For the first time, it looks like a lot of people came out to enjoy it. The weather’s cooperating, and so this thing is great.”

The executive directors of the museums, Samantha Stoddard of the Museum of Clean and Melody Daniels of My World Discovery Museum, told EastIdahoNews.com before the event that families who enjoy attending their museums would also enjoy coming to the festival.

“We try so hard to bring the essence of the museums to our events. … Families having fun, and spending time together, and engaging and growing their relationships, that’s what you’ll see,” Daniels said.

As Hunter walked around the festival with his family, he was impressed by how much there was to do at the festival.

“It’s family-oriented, and the kids, I think, are enjoying it as I look around. And the French fries are good,” Hunter said.

Brianna Kunz brought her children to the festival, and said they were excited for the event.

“We were excited to come. We love that this community caters really towards families,” Kunz said.

Kunz said her kids enjoyed building ‘Potato Derby’ cars, and were happy to run into Mr. Potato Head. Kunz also complimented the free french fries handed out by employees from Simplot.

“For the amount of people that they have been serving, the fries have been surprisingly so good,” Kunz said.
