A local Secret Santa is giving $1 million to deserving people in eastern Idaho this holiday season. Every day, from now until the end of the year, the East Idaho News elves will be delivering gifts from Secret Santa and we’ll be sharing the surprise videos here.

Maggie, a single mother of four and grandmother of one, has always put her family first. She put her oldest son through college on her own, and he’s set to graduate next year in St. George, Utah. Another son will graduate from Rigby High School this year, and her younger son is still in school.

Despite long hours, a demanding schedule, and a tight budget, Maggie has done everything she can to provide stability and opportunity for her children. But in recent weeks, life became even more challenging.

A couple of weeks ago, while driving to her son’s football game, Maggie’s car broke down. Living in Menan and working in Ammon, she has been relying on rides from family just to get to work, which is 30-45 minutes away. The setback has been exhausting for someone who prides herself on independence and has never been one to ask for help.

Her biggest worry was not being able to drive to St. George next year to see her oldest son walk across the graduation stage — something she’s worked toward for years.

Secret Santa asked the East Idaho News elves to pay Maggie a visit and we happened to catch her while she was eating lunch with a friend. Check out the surprise in the video player above!
