SHELLEY — A Shelley woman has pleaded guilty to vehicular manslaughter after an October crash killed a young girl and a father of four.
Following an investigation by Idaho State Police and a review by Bingham County Prosecutor Paul Rogers, Jericka Evans, 29, was charged with two misdemeanor counts of vehicular manslaughter. This month, Evans signed a plea agreement with prosecutors that recommended she spend time on probation rather than in jail.

According to an Oct. 5, 2019 crash report, Evans was driving a 2014 Ford F350 when she slammed into the back of a 2012 Nissan Sentra driven by Caitlyn Evans on U.S. Highway 91. In the Sentra, 24-year-old Jean Hurrle and 7-year-old Ellowyn Faith Evans were killed, and investigators determined exceeding the speed limit and inattention were contributing factors in the crash. Investigators did not list distracted driving as a factor.
Prosecutors and the defense will recommend Evans serve up to four years on probation but will have the option to review the recommendation following 18 months. Evans will also agree to complete a defensive driving course, 200 hours of community service and be held liable for restitution.
The agreement is binding on the court, meaning the judge is required to follow sentencing recommendations. However, a judge can still decline the plea agreement and Evans retains the ability to withdraw her guilty plea.
Sentencing for Evans is scheduled at the Bingham County Courthouse on April 30 by Magistrate Judge Scott Hansen.
