IDAHO FALLS — Firefighters put out a chimney fire at a home on the corner of John Adams Parkway and Meppen Drive in Idaho Falls Monday morning.

Idaho Falls Fire Department Spokeswoman Kerry Hammon says the homeowner called 911 around 6:30 a.m. and reported seeing and smelling gray smoke from the chimney area. Everyone inside the home made it safely outside.

When firefighters arrived, visible flames came from the chimney. Firefighters put out the fire before 7 a.m. by pouring a dry powder into the chimney.

The fire did not spread to the attic, Hammon said.

The fire department arrived with a ladder truck, two engines and a battalion chief. The Idaho Falls Police Department also helped direct traffic while crews worked.

There were no reported injuries.

With cold temperatures and higher use of wood fireplaces and stoves, Hammon says it’s important to make sure your chimneys are cleaned and inspected.
