AMMON — A man is dead after a verbal argument escalated into a shooting incident inside a Bonneville County neighborhood Wednesday night.

Deputies were called to the 500 block of North Lakewood Avenue at around 10:30 p.m., according to a Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office news release. Deputies were advised shots had been fired.

When emergency responders arrived, they found a 58-year-old man dead from apparent gunshot wounds.

Investigators determined two men who are related were arguing inside a house while the victim was intoxicated. According to deputies, the victim grabbed a gun from inside the house and the argument moved outside of the home.

The victim then pointed the gun at the man he was arguing with and pulled the trigger. The 26-year-old who was armed with his own gun fired back at the victim, hitting him at least twice, killing the 58-year-old.

The Sheriff’s Office says no one else was hurt and the man and witnesses are cooperating with authorities.

The identity of the victim and the shooter are not being released at this time.

The case is still under investigation.
