IDAHO FALLS — Local and state officials closed U.S. Highway 26 between Ririe and Swan Valley Tuesday afternoon due to severe winter weather conditions.
The National Weather Service reports blowing and drifting snow is causing poor visibility and slick conditions throughout the region. Drivers are urged to use extreme caution when driving.
It’s unclear how long the road will be closed.
Nearly all of eastern Idaho is under a winter weather advisory until 3 p.m. Tuesday. Total snow accumulations of a trace to three inches are expected in the valleys and up to six inches is predicted in the mountains. Winds gusting in excess of 40 mph at times will create widespread blowing and drifting snow, according to the National Weather Service.
