IDAHO FALLS – A Georgia woman was arrested for allegedly stealing a stranger’s truck and running off with his gun.
Rebecca Lyn Holt, 45, was charged with felony grand theft of firearms, rifles, or shotguns, felony attempting to flee to elude a police officer in a motor vehicle, and misdemeanor operating a vehicle without the owner’s consent.
On Thursday, Idaho Falls Police were called to the Gas n Grub gas station at 1690 North Woodruff Avenue after reports that a truck had been stolen.
The truck owner told officers that his blue Ford F150 had been stolen by a woman he did not know in a “white suit pant outfit with orange or pink hair and a sun hat.” He said she was headed east on East Lincoln Road.
IFPD and the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office assisted in finding the car located at a home on Eagle Drive.
Officers identified the woman as Holt and said they saw her exiting the truck with a small black case containing a gun belonging to the owner before leaving the home.
Law enforcement followed her down the street. She was then arrested by deputies and brought back to the home on Eagle Drive to be interviewed.
According to police reports, Holt initially lied to officers about her identity. When they were able to correctly identify her, officers discovered she had an active warrant out for her arrest.
Holt was then taken to the Bonneville County Jail, where her bond was set to $50,000.
She is expected to appear for a preliminary hearing on Sept. 1. If convicted, she could face up to 19 and a half years in prison.
Though Holt has been charged with these crimes, it does not necessarily mean she committed them. Everyone is presumed innocent until they are proven guilty.
