Roads open up, containment improves for 2,400-acre Thunder Fire near Salmon

SALMON — Significant progress has been made regarding a wildfire near Salmon, including opening up previously closed roads.
The fire is approximately two miles northwest of Williams Lake and about 11 miles southwest of Salmon. It was caused by lightning and started on July 24.
As of Friday, the fire remains at 2,474 acres, but it is now 50% contained.
Crews are continuing to mop up and monitor for increased fire activity, according to InciWeb.
On July 26, roads were closed on NFS lands and trails, but they have all re-opened, according to a news release sent on Friday.
Salmon-Challis National Forest crews are asking visitors to be aware of the “very high” fire danger in the area.
