MERIDIAN — A 19-year-old motorcyclist was arrested Friday after Idaho State Police say he was caught weaving through heavy traffic at speeds exceeding 110 miles per hour on Interstate 84 in Ada County.
Just before 8 a.m., ISP Motors Corporal McConnell spotted a red 2007 Yamaha YZFR6 speeding westbound near milepost 45. According to ISP, the rider was darting between cars without signaling and squeezing through tight gaps, endangering morning commuters.
McConnell made a U-turn and pursued the motorcycle, pacing it between 110 and 115 mph as it continued weaving aggressively through traffic, according to a news release. The rider failed to stop when emergency lights were activated near milepost 42.5 but eventually pulled over near milepost 41.
The man was taken into custody without incident and booked for reckless driving.
“We’re serious about addressing this ongoing roadway safety concern,” said ISP District 3 Patrol Captain Michael Winans. “Excessive speed and reckless behavior put lives at risk. ISP will continue taking enforcement action to prevent tragedies before they happen.”
ISP reminds all motorcyclists that riding is a privilege that comes with significant responsibility.
“High-performance motorcycles are unforgiving machines, and a single reckless decision at high speeds can have life-altering consequences. It’s crucial to prioritize safety riding,” the news release says.
