David Kennard

David Kennard is a seasoned journalist, spending the bulk of his career in community newsrooms in the West, but most recently joining the East Idaho News team from the Carolinas on the East Coast.

With family roots in southeast Idaho – Montpelier, Preston and the greater Bear Lake Basin – he loves to tell the stories that touch the lives of east Idaho residents.

David has earned a collection of industry awards from state news associations as well as from the Associated Press and other agencies for his storytelling, photography and design in newsrooms throughout the country. But he’s quick to tell you that he’s more interested in getting to know residents here and telling their stories than he is in the boxes of awards taking up space in his garage.

As an Eagle Scout and father of four – boy, girl, boy, girl – he likes to say that together with his wife of nearly 40 years he’s a family of six Eagles, all of whom have spent many nights under the stars from the Pacific Northwest to the geyser basins of Yellowstone, red rock canyons of southern Utah and the Lowcountry of the South. He loves fly fishing, mountain biking, hiking and root beer.

David and his wife, Suesan, live in Idaho Falls, where they are full-time caregivers of David’s youngest sister, Katie, a special-needs adult.
