Most Americans Remain Skittish About Making Mobile Purchases
Published at(NEW YORK) — If you have yet to make a mobile payment in a store, you remain in the majority of U.S. consumers who haven’t done so.
Based on a poll of 525 adults ages 18 and up, Baird Equity Research says that four in ten Americans have made a mobile payment.
While still the minority, people are becoming less wary of the new technology, although they’re still slow to do it with any regularity.
For instance, just ten percent say they use their smartphones to make in-store purchases at least once a month while three in ten make a mobile payment once monthly or less.
Those more inclined to pay by smartphone, not surprisingly, are consumers ages 18-to-24.
Shoppers older than that said their top reason for paying in traditional ways is because they don’t see mobile purchases as particularly convenient. Concerns about security was the second major reason, while retailers who don’t accept mobile payments was third.
