IDAHO FALLS — Bonneville and Hillcrest high schools are busting at the seams and Bonneville Joint School District 93 is once again asking taxpayers to pass a bond to build a new high school. On Wednesday, the district’s school board unanimously approved a bond resolution during a lengthy board meeting.

The district has failed three times to win over two-thirds of the voters, the last time, in May of 2015, they came within 17 votes. They needed a 66.67 percent supermajority vote to move ahead.

This time there will be two separate bond questions for voters to consider on the Nov. 3 ballot; The district is asking for a $55.3 million measure to fund construction of a scaled-down high school. The other option includes an additional $8.2 million bond ($63.5 million total) to build a high school with a stadium and auditorium.

Bonneville School Board Trustee Paul Jenkins weighs in on the issue in the clip below.
