IDAHO FALLS — A transgender woman accused of videotaping an 18-year-old in a Target fitting room admitted to detectives that she had made videos in the past of women undressing, according to court documents obtained by EastIdahoNews.com.

Shauna Smith, a transgender woman, is being charged as Sean Smith with one felony count of video voyeurism after the alleged incident Monday.

An affidavit of probable cause states the 18-year-old woman was trying on swimwear at the Target on 25th East when someone in an adjacent fitting room held an iPhone over the top of the barrier and began taking photos or video recording.

“The victim’s mother confronted the suspect, who immediately fled on foot. Both (the victim and victim’s mother) described the suspect as a white male who was wearing a dress and a blonde wig. A witness observed the suspect get into a vehicle and leave the area,” court documents state.

Bonneville County detectives learned the vehicle was registered to Smith. When an investigator arrived at Smith’s home, documents state “the defendant’s roommate told (the investigator) her roommate is a transgender male who identifies as a female, Shauna Smith.”

The detective showed the roommate surveillance still photos of the suspect from Target and the roommate identified the suspect’s clothing as that of Smith’s, according to documents.

Deputies interviewed Smith and “the defendant eventually admitted to me that she had made videos in the past of women undressing. The defendant told (the detective) that she makes these videos for the ‘same reason men go online to look at pornography,'” documents state.

According to the affidavit, Smith told the detective “she finds the video sexually gratifying” and when the deputy looked at the camera roll on Smith’s iPhone, he “observed a video of a young adult female undressing in a changing room at what appear to be Target. The defendant admitted to me that this video was recorded at Target.”

It is ironic that people actually argued that this kind of thing would not happen. This is why my wife and daughter will never shop at Target and any other store that in an effort to be PC and “progressive” allows “trans-gendered people” to use whichever changing room or bathroom they “identify” with again. And if that makes me a “hateful bigot”, so be it.

    • .
What could ANY public facility do to prevent this?
      .

      • Enough already

you might have a point if it didn’t happen at Target.

      • Enough already

It don’t know. It wasn’t really a problem before.

        • Dolo

When before? Before men went in men’s dressing rooms and women in women’s. That’s why there wasn’t a problem before.

          • ChloeAlexa Landry

Dolo Oh ye of short sightedness, just where do you think WE Trans were going to the bathroom these past hundred or so years????

        • LC

Its always been a problem of people not respecting other peoples privacy its just the focus lately

      • Kathym

Make the stall walls go from floor to ceiling for one thing

    • Kae Oz

One incident of someone claiming to be trans as compared to how many trans individuals who have actually experienced violence at the hands of cis men? And how many trans people have actually committed sexual assault? Now how many have been victims of sexual assault as “retaliation” for their “deceit” or as corrective rape? If you look beyond the fear mongering sensationalism and research real facts, you will be surprised.
Trans men and women are still the ones who are truly in danger.

      • LarryECollins

If you look at the real statistics and not the hype the number of true transgender is miniscule. How many HAVE been attacked? Can you provide any statistics or just emotional presupposition?

        • Abby Roberts

The reason Target implemented the transgender bathroom policy in the first place is because of all the violence trans people were experiencing. There are some transgender people you would never be able to tell they were born the opposite gender. That being said, imagine a transgender man walking into a ladies restroom because he was assigned female at birth, but he looked nothing like a woman. He would be ridiculed by society and called a pervert, and all the ladies in that bathroom would be uncomfortable with a man being in there with them. This is why it’s so important for trans people to use the restrooms they identify with.

          • Bj9030

They would be ridiculed by society and called a pervert, because that is EXACTLY what they ARE !

          • TruthandLogic

Yet more false info… No one is attacking trans-people and if they are where are the stats that back up what you say

          • Jude Ossowski

How can a man be “assigned female at birth”? Sex is determined by chromosomes LONG before birth and cannot be changed by thought, deed, playing “dress up” or a surgeon’s scalpel.

      • Kym Hall

Not true and your statements are misleading because many of these instances happening to women and girls are not reported by media and places try to hide it and force victims not to comfoward because it’s not politically correct or the current law pro LBGT laws make the victims of these things feel that they have no rights to report because the person is allowed in the bathroom fitting room or lockeroom.

        • Benkai_Debussy

sure buddy, there’s definitely a massive conspiracy to hide LGBT crime. this is definitely something that politicians and our justice system would want to do because, uh….reasons

      • Bob

Found the man hater. So crimes of others justifies this act? That’s what your are saying. What a hateful, sexist person you are.

      • Geoff Stein

Crime statistics do not support your assertion. The only time that you see a spike in crime rates where transgenders are more likely to be victims is through domestic violence.

        http://www.thetaskforce.org/static_html/downloads/reports/reports/ntds_full.pdf

In a public setting.. you have only 4% being involved in an altercation in public transit and 3% in a retail store. That is actually slightly lower than the general public. Every other
situation is 1% aside from interactions with police which is at 6%. The
only real problem they seem to have is being disrespected or verbal
confrontation and that is still only an experience that 25-30% have
        experienced depending on the setting.

      • Enough already

Shauna/Sean is a trans by all the measures — he/she self-identifies as female, has lived as female for months, has a female room-mate that says he/she is female. It just so happens that Shauna/Sean has an attraction for females as well. What is so impossible about that?

      • zvkk2p

This is not the first incident at Target since the changes went into effect.

      • Anita Perry

Watch the video, “Women: Decide For Yourselves” which is based on court records. Google it.

      • TruthandLogic

LOL You need only use google to see that is a lie… Maybe when you grow up and have been in the world or have a family will you understand why people don’t want men or men living as women in bathrooms or changing rooms.

    • Abby Roberts

Targets have always had co-ed fitting rooms, which means that men, women, boys, girls, and yes, transgenders, have always used the same fitting room. This is not a new policy. It wasn’t a man that dressed like a lady and used the girls fitting room, it was a man dressed like a woman that took photos and videos of a woman in a co-Ed fitting room. It literally has nothing to do with Target because Walmart, malls everywhere, and just about every other store you can think of have co-Ed fitting rooms. If you want to boycott Target because of this policy, you might want to boycott every other store as well.

      • txbluebonnet

Last time I tried anything on in Walmart – not very long ago – there were men’s dressing rooms and womens’ dressing rooms! NOT CO-ED!

    • Janessiqueefa

      bye!

    • Frosty Shark

Hey David, no it doesn’t make you a bigot, but you sound unintelligent. Why would gender make a difference in a Target/Walmart style fitting room? They are unisex.

Also, the alleged was seen running away wearing a blonde wig. Would it make you feel better if the suspect was a male dressed as a woman? No it wouldn’t nor shouldn’t. A deranged pervert is a deranged pervert in my books regardless of ethnicity or gender.

      Smarten up America.

  • Mark S

Transgender??? Really?!?! That was a dude in a wig. Cross dresser maybe, but certainly not trans.

    • .
This is stereotypical behavior of someone who misunderstands social behavior.

This has nothing to do with being trans gender or cis gender.

Anyone who thinks they know something about trans gender people after reading this story is mistaken.

We don’t even know anything about Shauna / Sean Smith.

And we certainly have no insight on how ANY public facility could prevent this.
      .

      • Saddlebum

Just don’t allow it and don’t state publically that you do, stupid!

      • Al Saulinsky

Anyone who use the word “cis” in any kind of context is part of the problem. It’s a common tactic for the SJW crowd to use jumped up and made up words in order to muddy the debate. You disagree with any SJW argument? You’re hater. You wanna trot out some logic or scientific anthropological evidence to show the fallacy and mental impairment of “transgenderism”? Yeah you’re a hater for that too (after all the only ACCEPTABLE science is that which supports the agenda right?)
And the fact that you keep saying that ANY public facility could not have prevented this is disingenuous at best. The fact is Target has chosen to go down this road and it has made the possibility of this kind of thing happening exponentially MORE possible. So take your false equivalency and pound it in your pie hole.

      • Enough already

Call it what you want. Women don’t like this, and your funny little names don’t help.

      • Rich McCormack

All “transgenderism” is indicative of someone who misunderstands social behavior.

    • Dissy Rose

Yes, really. Transgender. “Her” roommate told the cops that “she” was. “She” uses a female name.

Guess what? Women have been telling you all that this would happen, but no one listens to us. These males, supported by their handmaidens, have verbally abused any woman (you know, those of us with a vagina) that objected to these ridiculous policies calling us “absurd,” “TERFs,” and a whole host of disgusting female-based insults that I won’t type out here.

I won’t shop at Target, or any other business, because of this: I, a female person, am NOT SAFE with these types of policies in place. Keep males out of our women spaces!

      • zvkk2p

I live in Phoenix, AZ and have always shopped at Fry’s Market for my groceries, which is owned by Kroger.

I had read a couple of months ago that Kroger had done the same thing as Target in one or more of their stores in the south (Georgia if I remember correctly). I immediately quit shopping at Fry’s Market, because I do not agree with Kroger’s policy. If Kroger is going to start it in one area, it will not be long before all Kroger-owned stores will have to follow suit.

    • Jo

The new laws to protect transgender people explicitly include cross dressers in the definition. Transgender is an ‘umbrella term’ that includes people who are ‘gender fluid’, ‘gender non-conforming’, ‘gender queer’, ‘cross dressers’, ie. men with a sexual fetish for pretending to be women and more. Transgender activists actively advocated for this broad definition in order to be ‘inclusive’.Also, these laws prevent you from taking it upon yourself to define this person’s identity. If they say they are a trans woman then that is enough according to the law. In some places you can be charged with an offense for denying their professed identity. This incident is a logical conclusion of these laws.

    • hobocamp

Any dude can say he feels like a woman and walk right into womens spaces no matter the way they’re dressed. You can’t say that’s not trans.

      • LarryECollins

Why is a transgender male-to-female turned on by photos of a young WOMAN undressing. Are you saying he’s a transgender lesbian?
        This is becoming ABSURD!

        • Rich McCormack

It’s only just “becoming” absurd?!?! It’s been off the charts since the first mention.

        • Zuzanna Smith

No, he’s a hetero male, like most transladees.

          • TruthandLogic

No sexual orientation has nothing to do with being a transgender. They are completely different. So yes this he/she/it can be attracted to women. Bruce Jenner is.

        • txbluebonnet

          I LOVE your reply!

    • Grammatical Gender

      No true scotsman, eh?

    • Zuzanna Smith

He calls himself trans, who are you to question his ladeebrains, transphobe bigot!

    • Weaselina

According to the trans community, you no longer have to have counseling, a diagnosis, take meds or have surgery. Just saying you are trans gives you all the legal protections.

the wording of these laws is really bad.

  • Yisheng Qingwa

    HA, nope.

  • What a surprise – NOT!

  • .
Again, what could ANY public facility do to prevent this?

    Do tell — thanks.
    .

    • Enough already

Make an announcement that any man can use the women’s facility — that should help it a lot. duh.

    • Dolo

Again! If he uses the right dressing room to fit his body parts there won’t be women in it!!!!!

    • Rich McCormack

Barring mentally/emotionally confused men from entering the ladies dressing room would be a great start.

  • Kae Oz

Your right. Individuals born with penises should never be trusted and should be fitted with control collars at birth.
I mean, I assume this where you are going with this, since this one incident of guy in a wig claiming to be trans is outnumbered greatly by incidents of cis men inappropriately recording women who are not stopped by rules stating they are not allowed in women’s rooms. I mean, the amount of girls raped in bathrooms by trans individuals I think is still zero, but the number raped by cis men in women’s bathrooms is scary.
So if one guy in a wig claiming trans means all trans people are a danger, the amount of assaults by cis gendered men must mean all cis gendered are a threat x10.
You did just read about that guy who slathered his sperm on that girls leg in Walmart because she was “hot”, yeah?

  • Lindsey Smith

We use to be a society that defended, respected and protected women and children. Now we are a society that is afraid of hurting the feelings of grown men that want to play dress up… Really sad. The gays got what they wanted:marriage that’s awesome… Blacks get their own tv channels and shows that clearly are very biase. I don’t have anything against black people or any race for that matter, but if roles were reversed by God we are the racist assholes. Letting it be ok for grown men in a dress and wig come in the restroom or fitting room with my daughters and other born females is disgusting!! If you were born a male you are a male! Play dress up if you want! Get a sex change! But stay in your male dressing rooms and bathrooms.. Its not fair to the rest of us who are fine with what we were born with to feel fear or question our kids safety and privacy and our own, because you decided one day you wanted to be a woman, or you are a Child molester. WE HAD NO SAY IN YOUR CHOICE why are YOU so special and you get to decide which restroom or fitting room to use. Its asinine.

    • Benkai_Debussy

“I don’t have anything against black people”

      lol, sure.

  • commonsense

You realize that “any pervert can throw on a wig, call himself “transgender”, and do things like this,” regardless of whether or not transgender people are allowed to use the restroom or changing room of their choice – right? All a rule restricting transgender people does is it prevents them, and anyone else who happens to look androgynous, from peeing in public. It does not protect women and girls.

  • Phleb

    … a male lesbian..

The big secret most trans hide from the population is that most trans women are heterosexual.
A small percentage of homo, bi and pedophiles thrown in.

  • Trevor Smith

Our great communities ostracize these individuals, forcing them into the shadows, and then act surprised when they are found with social disease. Transgender men and women go out in public as they feel they are. They worry that they may be harassed at every public place. They fear being raped. They fear being beaten to death by someone convinced of their mental illness. But we are worried about where THEY F**KING PISS?! Maybe walk a mile in her heels? If you’re okay with gay people, then you are okay with transgender people. They are part of our community and they’re coming with us!!

    • Mary Williams

Maybe you really need to reevaluate your views toward innocent women and girls who are born biologically into their sex. As a woman I have been raped, sexually assaulted, and taunted but I do not request nor has anyone protested on my behalf to have preferential treatment, treatment that would infringe the rights of others so I don’t have to deal or cope with things that society has placed on me. No, I am a strong woman, with conviction and coping skills. To overcome what I and so many women go through is overshadowed by this absurd cult of logic that people who make a decision to dress a certain way or live a certain way will not take responsibility for making that decision. If a decided to wear shit on my face, I have no right to cry and whine when people say you smell like shit. Men need to be men, we need strong, caring, stable men in our society that will fight for the rights of good, strong, loving women to get back to a stable, mentally healthy, way of life; to be role models for our young boys growing up in Amercia.

  • Celistus

Here is a question to anyone that lives in the area where this took place. what kind of fitting rooms does the Target in quesiton have. Does it have actual seperate ones or does it have ones in like middle of store where the fitting rooms are use by both male and female. and are the all the way to ceiling or high enough to peep over in first place?

  • Ah, the no true Scotsman argument. So typical of the trans cult.

  • Kath

No it proves that these laws place girls and women at risk.

    • .
There is no law in Idaho regarding anti discrimination in publicly accessible gender-separated facilities.
      .

  • Pia

The ‘improper purpose’ clause in some of these laws is an explicit acknowledgement by the authorities that they posea foreseeable risk to girls and women. Therefore I think we should be given financial compensation and the right to sue the government for knowingly placing us at risk when incidents like this occur, and the government should pay all of our legal costs. Many women and girls will be traumatized like this and many will require ongoing therapy or counseling. These laws are an absolute outrage against the rights of girls and women.

  • Kath

I wonder if the victim feels the system worked for her?

  • lee

It’s not about being a representative of any community. It’s not about using this incident against all transgender people. It ‘s about the fact that these laws remove the legitimate rights of girls and women to sex segregation, privacy and safety and increase the risk of such crimes. These laws overreach and conflict with the rights of other people. Thiis unacceptable and I believe unconstitutional. You can’t ensure the rights of one group by removing the rights of another.

  • hobocamp

He! I’m so sick of the media buying into these dudes delusions. Look at that creep. Are they going to send him to a woman’s jail because he ‘identifies” as a woman. Jfc people, WAKE UP!

  • hobocamp

You can’t identify out of being a criminal. This dude is as much a trans woman as any of you are. You’re acting like the system works when he’s going to possibly be sent to a woman’s prison? This isn’t the system working, this is the system putting women and girls at risk because of delusional male feelings.

  • jay

This person was a member of the transgender community. Do you think the system worked for the female victim who has been traumatized by this violation?

    • Bob Blaylock

Perverts think the system “works” when it upholds the interests of perverts.

  • Terri DeBruler

just how does this ” system ” we have in place working ? this is happening all over the country, good grief you act like this was no big deal, nothing too see here move on…. It was a disgusting unlawful event, which is now taking place over and over, Women should not have to deal with such things.

Target is also to blame for allowing this too even happen, I will never step foot in target, Ross or any other retailer that allows Transgenders in the WRONG bathrooms or changing rooms !

He is a MAN not a woman I don’t care what he dresses as or what name he uses, he has a willey he belongs in the Men’s changing rooms period, this time it was a poor 18 year old, it could just as easily been a YOUNG GIRL … And EVERY doctor has come out and said this is a mental disorder, unlike being gay. They are furious that these people aren’t being sent for mental health care but instead being catered to.

    • .
No, being trans gender is not considered a mental disorder by any professional community.
      .

  • CherylD

If we are to punish all trans people because of some “pervert with a wig” are we now to also punish all men because bathroom assaults with children are more frequent? How much time do you spend condeming the actions of other cis men when they cross a line? I will still feel more comfortable with a trans woman than any man who walks in claiming to be a woman of his birth certificate. I still face much less chance of assault as a cis woman than any member of the trans community.

    • Dolo

What in the world is a cis man? If you mean a man that is a man then say that. Man! They are still the norm. There are more of them and they are more useful to ordinary women. And who’s condemning all transgenders. Most are condemning the stupid idea that they should use bathrooms/ dressing rooms that don’t fit their body parts.

    • TruthandLogic

What punishment? Expecting someone to use to correct bathroom isn’t punishment. Society shouldn’t coddle the mentally ill.

  • Elyk Yeznad

FYI Target dressing rooms are unisex and it was not in a bathroom. People have been doing this for years, it just so happens that the media added or highlighted “Transgender” to attract attention and cause debate. If anything, that is a “Cross Dresser.”

    • Geoff Stein

He identifies as a she. That’s the only requirement necessary to be considered transgender.

    • Mary Williams

As a woman who previously shopped at Target for Maternity clothes, I can verify that the dressing rooms are NOT unisex. Stop trying to defend gross, disgusting people

  • Jon Peer

Yes, because prior to Target’s reintroduction of their policy, never in the course of history has a person been arrested for voyeurism. You know, they should probably come up with a law for that. Wait? She was arrested for that, so it has happened before. Target’s policy is irrelevant as transgender have used the bathroom that fits with their gender identity for years without anyone knowing – you don’t think they went home every time they had to piss did you? The only reason this is news is because the media determined it was news because people react to social discrimination more so it takes away from current government wrongdoings.

While she is a member of the transgender community, she is the type that provides the reasons people fear the community. In every group there is a small portion of the members that bring hardship on the others. Not all Muslims are terrorists, not all males are rapists, not all Caucasians are apart of the KKK, not all African Americans are criminals, not all police officers abuse their authority, not all managers are effective, not all wall street bankers crashed the economy BUT some of the above within their respective groups are.

    • Rich McCormack

But they were also never given direct, unimpeded access to their intended victims, either. Why make it easier?

    • .
Actually, bladder and kidney diseases are higher in trans gender people because of their fear of being challenged when trying to use the appropriate public toilet for their identity, so they hold it too long.
      .

  • WhatVoltaireSaid

Why are you still referring to the perpetrator in this case as “they”? If “she” is not an accurate representative of the transgender community, then “she” is a “he” and not a “they.” This incident cannot be said to prove anything, and especially not that any system in place works.

  • Adam Graham

I am sure you use the same philosophy with gun crimes too, right? The shooter is not representative of all gun owners, and the fact that we can prosecute the shooter proves that the gun laws we have in place do work. Thanks for your defense of gun owners everywhere!

    • .
      Makes sense.

Prosecute the misbehavers, leave the others alone.
      .

      • Bob Blaylock

The mere act of a sexually-confused male pervert, who claims to be female, going into a women’s restroom or dressing facility, is a misbehavior that violates the rights of actual women.

        • .
          How so?

How does a goofy person, or merely a different person ( you think they are goofy or different ) in the next stall violate the rights of “actual” women ( whatever “actual” women means ) ?

There was nothing in the story to indicate the goofiness or differentness of the victims, so you are inventing, by the way.

How about sexually confused female perverts going into a woman’s restroom or dressing facility — they ARE actual woman ( whatever “actual” women means ) ?

If accurately reported, the only crime here was peeping in violation of someone’s expectations of privacy — gender and cameras have nothing to do with it.

I think you will have to accommodate the Constitution regarding every citizen’s equal inalienable rights to their own life, to their own liberty, and to their own pursuit of their own happiness, regardless of any inborn, acquired, or chosen traits, with no discrimination in government and public accommodations — even though you feel you are different from them in some way, or they are different from you in some way.

Welcome to the US, land of the free.

Imagine no more second class citizens, please — thank you.
          .

        • .
Well, no argument, concerning a sexually-confused male pervert, who claims to be female.

Arrest and prosecute them if they transgress against gender separated facilities.

But we’re kind of discussing trans gender people, not exually-confused male perverts who claim to be female.

Sadly the real discussion is peeping against someone’s expectation of privacy, but, hey, people seem to bring their own agendas, so who’s gonna stop them?
          .

If we’ve learned anything lately, it’s this. The problem is those video camera phones! Why do we need them? They were designed to take pictures, that’s what it was used for, and they are just too easy to get! Ban them! Ban them! Ban them!!! Besides, the Constitution never guaranteed video cameras to individuals, they are meant for the government and them alone! Why can’t you FOXers ever understand anything?

Yes and we should ban home surveillance cameras so those robbers will not get caught. The fact that you see the video cam as the issue here is astounding and is a great example of those that support their lunacy

      • Anonymous

Mary, that’s called a “straw man” argument, if I remember correctly. (It’s been a long time.) What you did was say something I didn’t say, and then bash me “for saying it.”

  • zvkk2p

Thoughtful and thought-provoking post Jura 🙂

  • Rich McCormack

    Bull

  • Benkai_Debussy

it’s hilarious seeing people like this flip out. you’ve lost this battle; the political zeitgeist will continue to move in the direction of increased acceptance of LGBT people, and there is nothing you can do about it but whine on the internet.

    • Jura Sonkoviq

Yes, I understand – but everything is possible to be changed back to normality! If we do not change, I will tell you right now, that the next generations will suffer severally… I am telling the truth – that every action made on this earth has eternal consequences…
I am not originally from this country, but I tell you, this country was and still is, indeed a country that was visited by Jesus Christ… what a blessing and freedom, since people have counted their blessings as curses then, sooner or later, they will devour one-another… Go on with your liberalization and progress – but it will not take many years where the country will be destroyed from inside — it is a historical fact (see Greeks, see Romans, see other barbaric ethnicity where they practiced and admired the same deeds see where did they end) …
THIS IS NOT PROGRESSION – THERE IS NOTHING NEW UNDER THE SUN… These were all things that pagans of the old practiced… even pedophilia and bestiality and many other things that the earth could not stand them… made in the image of God acting like worse than animals…
Having wisdom and yet making our minds idiotic — for what? to prove what? all homosexuals could pervert how ever they wanted even before… I was in San Francisco and seen many things — no one question that those people had no freedom, they had more than freedom, exposing nakedness on front of children and old — not respect for themselves neither for others…
I whine on the internet because this is the only place that I can share my thoughts… although, the reason why I write, is because the love for the people of this country, to remind that we need to change things before it is too late…

    • Mary Williams

Sadly for you, but Hallelujah to all those that know and serve the almighty.

God will win the battle when Christ returns not the LGBT community.

Yes, go ahead and hate me because I do bare the cross, hate me because I am saved, hate me because I have suffered and found the only light in the world and know the way. It’s hard being a Christian but I will always remain true to my convictions and if I must suffer or be persecuted for staying true to the Word then so be it, it’s been foretold. But I do want everyone to know that I love, I do not hate, I do not hate you if I disagree with you, I do not hate you if you have demons, I have battled my own, I do not hate you if you are blind to God, only you can ask Christ for everlasting life, but you must give up this earthly way of living and live for God. I had to face the devil in my own life to run to Jesus

    • rcaston

And just like Sodom and Gomorrah our once great country will fall.

  • Rich McCormack

What? How? “regular guys” are not in women’s dressing rooms. And if “regular guys” did this they too would be condemned.

    • LC

Regular guys do this all the time ever read rape statistics they would blow your mind. How about rape statistics in the military 28k women a year and thats the ones who report it and the military consist of about 2 million all together. Im sure out of all trans people the numbers do not come anywhere near to this.

  • Grace A Little

I have signed the boycott and will no longer shop at Target due to their blatant disregard of our privacy and safety!

  • WJS

One transgender person commits a crime–mass hysteria
Thousands of men commit this crime every single day in America–ho hum, nothing to see here.

Is it still 2003 in Idaho? Damn.

    • Ray Muñez

I’m fairly sure that crime committed on a daily basis is extensively covered by the press and is of concern to people. The reason that this particular crime warrants special attention is because there is a concerted effort by trans activists to impose policies which facilitate crimes in women’s spaces and they have falsely claimed that crimes like the one reported above never occur. Public policies ought to help prevent crime, not facilitate it.

  • Abby Roberts

It wasn’t a women’s dressing room. Nearly every store you will go to has unisex fitting rooms. This has nothing to do with Target’s transgender policy and everything to do with a perverted human being.

    • J T

Well then Target’s perverted transgender policy is PERVERTED on its own! BOYCOTT TARGET!

  • Abby Roberts

Ever been to Target? Yeah, there are no separate dressing rooms for men and women, it’s all co-Ed.

  • Anonymous

Oh my! Is the press in Idaho controlled as well? We’ll see.

  • KN

What a surprise. Time to sue Target for not providing proper security.

  • Ray Muñez

This is a good example of the fact that transgenders are not gay and should never be conflated with gay or LGB people. Transgenderism is not a sexual orientation and in fact the large majority of transgenders are heterosexual. Many of these men are intensely attracted to women to the extent that they want to be totally consumed by womanliness, to have it take over their body and identity.

  • .
Please share your basis for “mentally disturbed” — links and references, please, I’d like to look over your shoulder and learn what you learned that persuaded you to believe what you write — thanks.

All of which is inline with the general population. Statistics mean nothing unless you put them in context.

Seriously — we do not have prior restraint against innocent people in case they might offend — is anyone keeping you from speeding on the highway, or do they wait for you to speed, then ticket you?

Would you prefer a law that all multi-occupant public facilities must have a professional witness ( whatever that is ) within them when they are open to the public?

It has been suggested that floor-to-ceiling doors and walls would severely limit the opportunity to peep.

    Your thoughts?
    .

  • Mary Williams

Those that commit crimes are not considered citizens, he will be convicted and hopefully go to prison and get some much needed counseling

  • Mary Williams

It is a safety issue, his mental disorder should not give the young lady one. Protect these young beautiful brains and not allow those with deranged brains to destroy others.

  • TruthandLogic

The constitution allows for transgenders to live as the opposite sex. No discrimination at all

  • Mac

So, let’s make it easy for them?

    • LC

We already make it easy when they use the boys bathroom and target boys. Perverts are everywhere wont be able to stop somebody from doing what they want to do.

  • TruthandLogic

Not true Transwomen are being allowed to go into women’s bathrooms in several cities — so please tell the truth. They are men till they have the surgery. If they were women, surgery won’t be needed.

  • TruthandLogic

Again Using the bathroom of your choice is not a constitutional right.

  • Kym Hall

Read more than one article the roommate and wife and the guy all confirmed he was transgender. The sexual preference of victims had nothing to do with what happened . The woman was filmed all because he was aloud in the fitting room. Sexual preference has nothing to do with it. It’s about biologically and him videoing the woman for whatever his reasoning whether sexual or not.

  • Leo

You must be new to this site.

  • rt2wshpMyWay

If you STILL shop target, I suggest, purchase the clothes, try them on at home & if you do’t like them or they don’t fit, take them back. Oh, & Make Sure You Stop Somewhere Else, In case you need a potty break, before you go into a target store.

  • Jaybird

Exactly Stacey. The stupidity of it all is truly unnerving. Some people will commit crimes no matter what but then there are some that all they need is a push. Those who would normally be too afraid of entering the ladies room or ladies changing area now feel more embolden due to this foolishness. They feel they will be less likely to be caught or called out on what they’re really up to. If trans people are so afraid of being attacked why not use a single stall bathroom?

  • J T

BOYCOTT TARGET! NEVER GO THERE! THEIR STOCK IS PLUMMETING, KEEP IT UP!

  • Jude Ossowski

Brooks Miller, you’re comparing blaming an inanimate object for crime with blaming the perp? No gun has ever committed a crime. Maybe you think this story is about controlling cameras?

  • Mary Williams

The guy committed an act that people who are mentally stable do not do, if you cannot conceive this as mentally ill than you support what he did and must also suffer from an imbalance

    • .
Shauna Smith’s mental state has nothing to do with preemptive law — there is no such thing in the US.

I do appreciate your sympathies, though, to consider all people who may have committed a crime, as needing mental assistance — that is a compassionate point of view woefully missing in our penal system.
      .

  • Mary Williams

Prisoners do not the same rights as citizens while in the prison system. They have certain rights to safety, and may get rewarded for good behavior.

I did not say his citizenship is revoked. You are no better than him to continually defend this person’s actions. Shame on you

  • Dayna Hamilton

First of all, that is NOT a woman, it is a mentally ill MAN!!! Second, can we stop letting these pervs think it’s ok to use the women’s dressing rooms and bathrooms? Someone is going to get hurt, and it’s going to be the mentally ill men.

    • .
Can you share some research information on your assessment of “mentally ill”?

I’d love to look over your shoulder and learn how you learned what you share — thanks.

( PS — mental illness, of course, is a private medical assessment, and cannot be made public without consent, and has nothing to do with equal inalienable civil rights under Constitutional law that prohibits discrimination in government and public accommodations, by the way. )

And that is why we can’t give men access to women and children. They do these things a lot.

  • Weaselina

    No, women are.

  • Sam

You can’t be serious, therefore no reply is warranted.

  • Kym Hall

The laws protected lgtb that say that biological males or vis versa are aloud in these areas exclusively labeled by biological anatomical gender not who you decide your are that day. Had the law been different the woman code kick this male out before something happened and the guy would have never been aloud in the fitting room. Yes there are fitting room attendants which could have done something and not aloud man in if the laws were the way the shod be. You never went to a woman’s fitting room have you. Now the attendance have to let him in and let the video take place . This all could have been prevented. Women in women’srooms men in men’s. Stop using excuses to justify a biological male being some where he did not belong.

  • rcaston

No, it’s perversion. God made them male and female. Not male and female and someplace in between.

There is no testimony that the changing room was gender specific.

There was no testimony that Shauna Smith was not female.

There was only testimony that Shauna Smith photographed people against their expectation of privacy, if so, and if those include images of the person’s privates without the person’s permission ( duh ), then that is Federal statutory violation., and there are state laws that may come into play, also.

The gender or LGBT-ness of perpetrator or victim have nothing to do with anything in this story.

Wow, @disqus_XlfuJ775B5:disqus, do you have ANY experience of even ONE trans gender person?

Can you share ANY experience of even ONE trans gender person?

  • Stacey Denzel Morton

Let’s stick to the topic at hand. I am not addressing gun control…. just women’s safety in restrooms and dressing rooms. Your illogical jump from one topic to another makes you look foolish because you assume that I am pro gun and dislike transgender people, neither which is true. Let’s also address the truth that Target does not really care about the safety of the transgender community or any of its clients. If they did they would abandon this foolish policy and put some of their profit (which now has plummeted) into placing single person rest rooms and dressing rooms. That would solve the problem but they are not interested in anyone’s safety or in spending money to address such issues, just interested in looking like the are sensitive to the transgender community. It is all just pandering and posturing to help their bottom line, which has backfired on them!

  • Stacey Denzel Morton

Peter Blaise, the notion that Target gives any concern to their equal recognition, support, and protection is laughable. If that were the case they would be using their profit (which has now plummeted) to install single use bathrooms (not just stalls in a communal room) and single use dressing rooms in all of their stores. This would certainly solve the problem. But they are not interested in the safety of anyone in the transgender community, just in the posturing of it all, and that has backfired on them.

    • .
What ‘safety’ issue are you addressing, specifically, @staceydenzelmorton:disqus?
      .

  • WhatVoltaireSaid

By “transgender women” do you mean “assigned” women who “identify” as men? Transgender is a very confusing topic.

    • .
Trans gender is basically someone with male and female elements, hence ‘trans’.

A trans gender woman is someone who identifies as a woman, and has female and male elements.

The world’s largest democracy honors a third gender for trans gender people who do not self-identify as female or male.

What’s your point, what’s it to you, @whatvoltairesaid:disqus?
      .

  • WhatVoltaireSaid

You sort of missed the point of my comment, sir.

    • .
… so did you if you cannot paraphrase in response.
      .

  • lelandpc

I suggest if you are confused as to your gender to look in your pants.

    • .
You have an absolute right to define your identity any way you want to.

@lelabdpc:disqus, if you identify with and think with your genitals, more power to you.

      Some of us have brains.

Regardless, legally, no one but ourselves is responsible for our identity.

Welcome to the US with equal Constitutional protection for anyone’s own life, own liberty, and own pursuit of happiness.

      Been here long?

Want a copy of the Constitution, @lelandpc:disqus?
      .

      • lelandpc

So if you believe equal protection under the law you must be against killing babies in the womb. If we can decide our own gender regardless of what God gave us in our pants then where do we draw the line. Can I decide to be a 5 year old, 6 foot, Asian girl? Can we decide our height, and weight because that is the way we feel? Can we decide our ethnicity? Does truth have any bearing on life any more?

        • .
1 – OFF TOPIC: A baby is defined as outside the womb, anything inside someone else’s body is outside the jurisdiction of the state — what kind of a unconstitutional socialist-communist are you to believe that someone’s body and what’s inside belongs to the state?

2 – OFF TOPIC: Constitutionally, your God has nothing to do with anything.

3 – Trans gender happens in the womb before birth, and is not a whimsical decision made by children or adults, it is self-identification – what kind of unconstitutional socialist-communist are you that you believe people should lineup at some bureaucracy to receive dictated and approved identification from the government?

4 – OFF TOPIC: One’s height and ethnicity and weight are not on the in-womb hormone spectrum from female-to-male before birth, but, after you are born, if you want to augment your height or your appearance or apply for a change of your birth certificate’s claimed birth location, or cause your weight to follow your feelings, go right ahead, no one’s going to stop you, and let us know how those ( absolutely legal ) things work out for you.

5 – Your truth ( gratefully ) does not spill out all over me, nor does mine spill on you; the only things we have in common to help us all get along are our credo and promise of our Declaration of Independence, and our contract of our Constitution and Amendments — get used to it.

Want a copy of our Constitution, @lelandpc:disqus?

Or are you waiting for the movie because reading is difficult, and comprehending is too hard?

Being wilfully ignorant is nothing to be proud of, @bobblaylock:disqus — you claim “evil and madness” and ” a man who claims to be a woman” without any supporting evidence, and in total contradiction to 20+ of well-documented scientific evidence to the contrary.

  • Todd Danza

“Making that “illegal” isn’t going to put up an invisible force field that will stop perverts from taking videos of your daughter on the toilet.”
Substitute the term “force field” with a term more like “social barrier” and actually, yes it does.
Yes, it’s illegal to film people in stalls, but if you allow them to get close, then doing the filming without getting caught becomes easier—and more tempting.
Gender-segregation creates a social barrier that prevents perverts from getting close to their would-be targets without setting off red flags.
Does it work 100% of the time? No, but it does work, and the fact that we’re seeing more cases like these the more loose we get about gender-segregation proves it.

  • .
Do you have a Constitutional reference for your contention @lelandpc:disqus, that “truth is not relative”?

And do you have a Constitutional reference on how folks get along when they proffer what appear to be different “truths”?

    Thanks.
    .

    • lelandpc

Don’t need to refer to the Constitution. The statement that Truth is relative is self-refuting. It defies the law of non-contradiction.

      • .
Oops, do you think we live under some list of rhetorical semantic academic debating society logistics “laws”, and not our contract of our Constitution, @lelandpc:disqus?
