POCATELLO – Zoo Idaho and The Idaho Museum of Natural History are teaming up to educate listeners about nature through radio.

The show is called “The Nature of Idaho”, and will air on Idaho State University’s KISU FM 91.1 Radio.

The hosts will be Leif Tapanila, the director of the Museum of Natural History, and Peter Pruett, the Zoo Idaho superintendent.

Pruett says it will explore Idaho’s natural past, present, and future.

The first few shows will feature topics like Idaho’s giant spiral tooth sharks, local bat species, fossils, and sage grouse.

Shows will include a guest expert, trivia questions and even science and nature news.

“It’s a way of inspiring people to learn more about Idaho in general,” says Pruett. “Get them outside, doing more outdoor activities, and it’s a way of saying ‘this is important to us.'”

Conservation will also be discussed in the show.

One of the overarching themes is that we as Idahoans are a part of nature, and that nature is all around us.

“Understanding nature is about understanding meaning and how I fit into the bigger picture,” says Dr. Tapanila. “That I might be small, but I have an impact on my surroundings and I want to do my part.”

The show will be on every other Thursday at 8:30 a.m. starting this week.

KISU can be found on your radio dial at 91.1 in Pocatello, 91.3 in Idaho Falls, and 88.1 in Rexburg. You can also listen online at kisu.org.
