Man sentenced for driving car into bake shop and car battery store

IDAHO FALLS – A 23-year-old man was sentenced after driving his car into an Ammon bake shop and a car battery store in March.
On Nov. 8, District Judge Bruce Pickett sentenced Karl Anthony Watson to a minimum of two years and a maximum of five years in prison. Pickett then suspended the sentence, and placed Watson on a five-year felony probation period with 100 hours of community service, and sent him to drug treatment court.
Watson initially pleaded not guilty to one count of felony malicious injury to property in one case, and one count of felony malicious injury to property, one count of misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance, and one count of misdemeanor use or possession with intent to use drug paraphernalia in a separate case.
Watson accepted a plea agreement in June, where he agreed to plead guilty to the one count of felony malicious injury to property in the first case, and the prosecution agreed to drop all other charges in the second case, and recommend Watson be ordered to apply to a problem solving court and probation at sentencing.
The agreement was non-binding on the court, meaning Pickett did not have to sentence Watson to the recommended time, and had the option to sentence him to more or less time if he saw fit.
