Sex offender sent back to prison after contacting his victim

RIGBY — A sex offender is back in prison after violating his probation days after completing a rider program earlier this year.

Court records show Lloyd Michael Vidrine, 36, was ordered to serve a four to 12-year prison sentence by District Judge Stevan Thompson on April 5. In April 2020, Vidrine was convicted of the sexual battery of a teenage boy and Thompson ordered him to complete a rider program.

In January, the judge opted to release Vidrine to spend 10-years on probation, but days later, Vidrine contacted his victim on Facebook among other offenses, according to court records. At the time of his sentence, he was ordered to have no contact with the victim while on probation.

“Offender has a smartphone and has accessed Grindr, social media, YouTube and multiple internet sites,” an affidavit on the probation violation reads. “Offender appears at this time to be a danger to the community as he is actively seeking out his victim and broken his (no-contact order).”

Vidrine originally received the sexual battery charge after using the dating app Tinder to begin a sexual relationship with the teenage boy in 2019. In an interview with police, the victim said he and Vidrine had sex several times in Jefferson County and once in Idaho Falls while staying at a hotel. The victim said he asked Vidrine to meet him during each of the encounters.

When investigators spoke with Vidrine, he said he initially assumed the teenager to be 18-years-old. Vidrine said he eventually learned the victim was underage, but they still had sex.

The Idaho Department of Correction shows Vidrine is being held in the Idaho State Correction Institution in Boise. He not eligible for parole until January 2024.
