REXBURG — Lori Vallow Daybell is back in the Madison County Jail awaiting sentencing after her trial concluded Friday in Ada County.

Daybell was found guilty of murdering her children, Joshua “JJ” Vallow and Tylee Ryan, and conspiracy of murder for the death of Tammy Daybell, her husband Chad Daybell’s former wife. A jury also found her guilty of grand theft.

The 49-year-old mother showed little emotion as the verdict was read. She was escorted out of the courtroom and transported to eastern Idaho where she was booked in the Madison County Jail. The charges originated in Fremont County but female inmates from Fremont are housed in Madison County.

District Judge Steven Boyce ordered a presentence investigation be conducted before Daybell is sentenced. According to Idaho law, the investigation must include the following aspects:

  • A description of the situation surrounding the criminal activity with which Daybell has been charged
  • Daybell’s prior criminal record
  • Daybell’s social history, including family relationships, marital status, age, interests and activities
  • Daybell’s educational background
  • Daybell’s employment background, including any military record, and defendant’s present employment status and capabilities
  • Daybell’s residence history
  • Daybell’s financial status
  • Daybell’s health
  • Daybell’s sense of values and outlook on life in general
  • The results of any substance abuse evaluation, mental health evaluation, domestic assault and battery evaluation, or psychosexual evaluation
  • The presentence investigator’s analysis of Daybell’s condition.

While ordering the presentence investigation, Boyce said it could take around three months so it’s likely Daybell will not be sentenced until late summer. If she is ordered to serve time in prison, she will be transferred to the Pocatello Women’s Correctional Center.

At that point, the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office in Arizona will proceed with its case against Daybell. She faces a conspiracy to commit murder charge in connection to the death of her fourth husband Charles Vallow.

“The Maricopa County Attorney’s Office has made the state of Idaho aware of our intent to prosecute the defendant in Arizona…After the defendant is sentenced and transferred to the Idaho Department of Corrections, at the request MCAO, the extradition process will begin. The extradition can take from several weeks to several months,” a statement from the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office says.

Charges have also been submitted in connection to the shooting involving Brandon Boudreaux, the man who was married to Daybell’s niece. Further details on that investigation have not been released.

A trial date for her husband Chad, who also faces murder charges, has not been set, but his attorney requested that it be held in June 2024 in Ada County.
